Draft script for the 1935 film. Paramount "File Copy" and "Master File" stamps on front wrapper. Script divided into sequences, as was customary for the period. Based on F. Britten Austin's 1923 short story "The Drum." Convalescing in Cairo, Andrews falls in love with his nurse, Rosemary Haydon (Gertrude Michael), who reveals she's secretly married to a man she'd briefly known a few years before, John Stevenson. Tall white self wrappers in the 1930s Paramount style. Title page dated May 15, 1935, rubber-stamped production No. 967. 135 leaves, with last page of text numbered C-52. Vintage double weight photograph of James Stewart and Jean Arthur from the 1939 film. Mimeo snipe, stamp crediting photographer Al Schafer, and very faint "Approved" stamp on the verso. Controversial among the political American establishment at the time for its (accurate, then and now) depiction of the Senate as a group of dysfunctional, shallow egotists, the film was also banned in fascist countries Germany, Italy, Spain, and the USSR, and, later, Nazi occupied France. Set in and shot on location in Washington DC. 8 x 10 inches. Near Fine, with faint diagonal crease to lower right.
