In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. Cell signaling is a way of communication among the living cells and involves the processing of biochemical information to regulate metabolic and cellular activities of the organism. The process of signaling initiates with a chemical species (i.e. ligands or signaling molecules) and ends with the cellular responses. The signal molecules are recognized by the receptors on the surface of target cells and the message is transferred inside the cell in series of steps, the signal transduction pathway, to produce the desired effects. Many signaling pathways have been studied for their involvement in cellular processes such as differentiation and proliferation. One such pathway is Wnt-signaling pathway which is an ancient and highly conserved among all metazoans; it is known to have roles in regulating life processes such as embryonic development, cell growth and survival, cell differentiation, migration and polarity (Wodarz et al., 1998). The term Wnt is derived from the name of two genes viz. wingless gene of Drosophila which is a segment polarity gene and its vertebrate homolog integrated or int-1 (Komiya and Habas, 2008). The extracellular signaling molecule of this pathway (i.e. ligand) is a glycoprotein known as Wnt, which binds to, and dimerize, two receptors namely LRP6/5 and Fz. The downstream signal is transported to the nucleus and promotes the transcription of Wnt responsive genes which ultimately regulate a wide variety of cellular processes including cell fate determination, motility, polarity, primary axis formation, stem cell renewal and organogenesis. In den WarenkorbTaschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Degenerative nerve diseases are age-related, progressive and cause irreversible neurological loss that may lead too death. Chronic diseases like amylotrophic lateral sclerosis, Huntington's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease are associated with insoluble protein depositions and pose serious health challenges that may intensify in the coming decades. Current therapies only help to alleviate some of the physical or mental symptoms associated with neurodegenerative diseases, although there is currently no remedy for slow disease progression. In recent years, attempts have been made to discover a mechanism for neurodegenerative diseases and prospective treatment that may help mitigate aging effects and prevent these diseases. Natural products have been a constant source of new approaches for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, in particular plant alkaloids and polyphenolic compounds. Indopathy for Neuroprotection: Recent Advances highlights herbal treatments that are preferred over conventional treatments in some regions. Book chapters focus on the effects of various medicinal plants that have shown promise in reversing pathological symptoms of neurodegenerative disease and highlight the neuroprotective role of medicinal herbal phytochemicals and their mechanism of action. The book serves as a reference for pharmacology and herbal medicine scholars as well as healthcare workers interested in information about alternative and complementary therapies for neurological disorders.

Neuware -In the current era current era of significant innovations, science and technology are powerful tools improving human welfare through prosperity and sustainable development. The development of microbiology based industries in any given country is shaped by the characteristics of its technology¿particularly its close relation to scientific knowledge, and by country-specific factors such as the level and nature of the scientific knowledge base, the institutional set-up, and the role assumed by the government, all of which influence the country's ability to exploit the new opportunities. This unique book presents an integrated approach for sustained innovation in various areas of microbiology. Focusing on the industrial and socio-legal implications of IPR in microbiological advances, it offers a comprehensive overview not only of the implications of IPR in omics-based research but also of the ethical and intellectual standards and how these can be developed for sustained innovation. The book is divided into three sections discussing current advances in microbiological innovations, recent intellectual property issues in agricultural, and pharmaceutical microbiology respectively. Integrating science and business, it offers a glimpse behind the scenes of the microbiology industry, and provides a detailed analysis of the foundations of the present day industry for students and professionals alike.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 416 pp. Englisch.
