Page fore-edges browned. Internally, owner's stamp on both surfaces of half title; yellowing and a bit of foxing to outer pages; a few discolouration spots elsewhere; otherwise, a good, tidy copy. Publisher's maroon cloth with gilt decorative front board, and gilt titles to spine, gilt rope twisted border to front board. Externally smart, with light bumping and wear to the extremities. The spine is a little discoloured and bumped to the ends. The closed page edges are lightly spotted. The binding is tight. Presentation inscription to the front endpaper. Some light spotting to the prelims, affecting the folding map frontispiece, else generally bright and unspotted throughout. A beautiful first edition, a presentation copy from the author.
