Hardcover. Zustand: new. Hardcover. This book explores how flow attenuation due to dams influences the hydrogeomorphic dynamics of wetlands and their ecohydrological transformation. The International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) (2021) reported that around 58,700 large dams and thousands of smaller dams have been built worldwide, regulating river flows and causing significant geomorphological and hydroecological changes in downstream river reaches and riparian floodplain wetlands. Wetlands, which cover about 6-8% of the earths surface, are important ecotonal ecosystems that harbor 40% of global biodiversity. Various factors contribute to the degradation and loss of wetlands, with damming. In rain-fed floodplains, river flow attenuation often disrupts the lateral connectivity between rivers and wetlands, leading to hydro-ecological changes that affect both the wetlands and the well-being of the communities that depend on them. However, these vital ecosystems are changing at an alarming rate, increasing the vulnerability of dependent ecosystems and societies. Numerous research articles have highlighted the various impacts of damming on wetlands. Yet, there is a noticeable gap in the comprehensive literature that provides an integrated perspective on eco-hydrological changes and approaches to their restoration in order to mitigate various forms of environmental risks. This book bridges this gap by first introducing the relationship between damming and river flow modifications, including changes in spilling behaviors and interactions with para-fluvial wetlands. It will address the measurement of flow modifications in response to damming a range of variability components (magnitude, duration, timing, etc.) to understand flow modification across different RVA components. Challenges in wetland delineation, particularly in dynamic seasonal floodplain environments, are addressed, with the book proposing strategies for mapping these erratic wetlands and examining key challenges and solution strategies. This book explores how flow attenuation due to dams influences the hydrogeomorphic dynamics of wetlands and their ecohydrological transformation. Hardcover. Zustand: new. Hardcover. This book seeks to showcase the ongoing challenges of water resource and its management through innovative and cutting-edge approaches (flooding and droughts and their respective impacts; spatial and urban planning; early warning systems; estimation of losses; water resource in the age of global climate change; risk communication; meteorology; integrated analysis; risk mitigation; infrastructures; nature-based management; watershed management; transport; legal assessment; vulnerability analysis; public participation; or case studies). In the face of current global changes, the availability and quality of water resources are under severe threat. Indeed, in all sectors related to water resource management, sustainable development is important for present and future generations. Indeed, multiple problems such as water shortage or flooding, as well as environmental pollution phenomena, are observed. This situation is further exacerbated by poor management practices and unsustainable extraction of water for various consumptive uses. Consequently, many regions around the world, particularly urban areas, are becoming water stressed and conflicts over access to water are becoming ever more common. To overcome the significant challenges fundamental to the management of water resources, cutting-edge knowledge, innovative approaches, and an in-depth understanding of the inherent scientific, economic, social, and environmental issues are imperative. Therefore, water resource management requires a clear understanding of the ongoing challenges and innovative approaches. The authors and editors believe that this book provides huge knowledge and data in the fields of water resource management, earth environmental sciences, humanities, and social sciences, which target a diverse range of readers, such as academics, scientists, students, environmentalists, meteorologists, urban planners, remote sensing, and GIS experts. Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Green energy and next-generation wireless systems are no longer independent domains, rather they are rapidly converging to redefine the future of sustainable connectivity. This book presents a forward looking study outlining the design of green energy driven, integrated smart grid and wireless networks. It reimagines the integration of renewable energy with the traditional power grid,by enabling each grid user to not only consume grid energy but to also be a potential energy source, thereby revising the conventional idea of power grids. A grid networked system of such distributed ambient powered nodes is hence envisioned to potentially act as a carbon-free energy producer system to the power grid, in addition to an energy prosumer system.Through its chapters, the book outlines and highlights the importance of sustainability in 6G networks. The authors present insights on the design constraints and challenges in system analysis. The study broadly pertains to analytical modeling of spatio-temporal randomness in cellular networks, presenting novel strategies to mitigate the effects of the dual randomness on network performance. The key ideas presented include joint load and energy balancing, optimum resource provisioning, and aerial offloading. The authors also demonstrate a wider perspective by extending the concept of energy balancing to energy aware residential networks. The book concludes by discussing the scope of integration of AI in wireless networks and motivate the need for green-AI aided future networks. Written for graduate level students in computer science and electrical engineering, as well as industry professionals deploying large-scale green service solutions, this book serves as both a foundational reference and a roadmap toward sustainable, scalable, and intelligent future communication networks.…
