Uniformly bound in a handsome, contemporary full leather, with lovely gilt-bordering at the panels and fine-tooled gilt-decorations within the compartments. Vol. I ("The First Tour of Dr. Syntax: In Search of the Picturesque") is the stated 9th edition; Vol. II ("The Second Tour of Dr. Syntax: In Search of Consolation") is a stated 3rd edition; and Vol. III ("The Third Tour of Dr. Syntax: In Search of a Wife") is the 1821 1st edition. All 3 volumes are clean and solid . The Thomas Rowlandson hand-colored plates ar all present. Two have some circular discoloration at the edge, but the rest are clean and very presentable. A full page handwritten ownership signature dated 1823 is at the front of the third volume and it is presumably when the volumes were all bound.
