A letter discussing the Kings matters, his financial situation with regards to a tournament and about a committee meeting. Prince Francis of Teck, 1870-1910 was the younger brother of the British queen Mary of Teck, wife of King George V. Sir William Henry Peregrine Carington 1845-1914 was a British soldier, courtier and Liberal politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1868 to 1883. Carington was a Groom in Waiting to Queen Victoria from 1880 to 1882. He was acting Master of the Buckhounds from 1883 to 1884, Equerry to Queen Victoria from 1881 to 1901 and an Extra Equerry to King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910. He also served as Comptroller and Treasurer to the Prince of Wales (later King George V) from 1901. Size is 178mm x 114mm. Condition is good. Light folding crease. Light age toning. These were drawn by various artists, the most famous of whom was Leslie Ward who used the 'nom de crayon' of "Spy". This portrait will come mounted/matted and ready to frame using archivist quality materials, mount size 18 x 12 inches, 47 x 31 cms. It will be presented in a cellophane wrapper with our label guaranteeing authenticity. We pack very well, between sheets of hardboard. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a portrait of the German Prince Teck, with the caption "The most popular of princes he had married the most popular of princesses". Prince Alexander of Teck was the fourth child and third son of Prince Francis, Duke of Teck, and Princess Mary, Duchess of Teck. Although his mother was a granddaughter of King George III and cousin to Queen Victoria, Athlone, as the son of a prince of Teck, in Württemberg, was styled from birth as His Serene Highness and held the title Prince Alexander of Teck. He served as Governor-General of the Union of South Africa, the country's fourth, and as Governor General of Canada, the 16th since that country's confederation.

Provenance: From the family of autograph collector Emily Mary Rose Lee (1869-1949), wife of Colonel William Crawford Walton (1864-1937). Emily was the daughter of William Lee, Professor of Ecclesiastical History at the University of Glasgow from 1874 to 1886, and granddaughter of John Lee (1779-1859), Principal of Edinburgh University from 1840 to 1859.
