Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Rembrandt Van Rhijn (illustrator). Undated (previous owner penned '1916' below his three initials off the top edge of the blank front end paper). No foxing! You can see the covers in the photos. There isn't any conspicuous soiling, but there is some toning off the top edges. The gilt lettering on the spine is nicely bright. There is some wear at both spine ends (second photo). The cover edges look good, one very small spot of rub-through at the rear middle one. There is some rub-through around all four corners. The top page edge is gilt. The page edges look very good. The spine has a slight forward lean, but (unlike many other copies of this book) the binding is quite solid. I found only a couple of instances of a slight space between facing pages, all four of these pages were tightly bound from top to bottom. The covers are also nicely, tightly bound. There is one binding issue-- the frontispiece (which is on heavier paper) is detached. However the edge where it was detached is very smooth. The frontispiece does have a tear/crease, and a sliver of loss, at its left bottom corner. There is also a little wear at two other corners. None of the corner wear comes anywhere near the drawing (Study of a Girl Sleeping). As mentioned, there isn't any foxing on the pages. The pages of the Introductory essay (5-16) are exceptionally clean and free of creasing or other wear. They are preceded by a two-page List Of Illustrations. This list is preceded by the title page, the half-title page, the frontispiece, and the front end paper. The 50 illustrations, identified as Plates, are all present and in very nice condition. They are quite clean. They are on semi-glossy paper. I saw one small crease just below the top corner of one page, and four consecutive pages have a tiny crease just above their bottom corner. There are no markings in the book. There are no attachments of any kind, it is NOT an ex-library book. And the only writing to be found anywhere is the aforementioned three initialed name and the date off the top edge of the front end paper. 'Dutch Golden Age painter, printmaker, and draughtsman. An innovative and prolific master in three media, he is generally considered one of the greatest visual artists in the history of art.'.
