Indigenous knowledge is transferred orally from generation to generation. Western knowledge is documented and everybody who can read and write can access it on his/ her own. Indigenous knowledge on the other hand is transferred through oral media. This places western knowledge at an advantage over indigenous knowledge because it can be subjected to critical analysis and developed further. Indigenous knowledge on the other hand does not enjoy the same privilege because it is not documented. Western knowledge has been undergoing development in leaps and bounds while indigenous knowledge remained stagnant. When the two groups reached South Africa the Nguni chose the route to Natal which is a small province crammed between the Indian Ocean and the Drakensberg Mountains. The climate in Natal was healthy and disease-free and as a result population explosion happened. The Nguni people did not have the technology to produce enough food for the rapidly increasing population and conflict started as a result of the scarcity of resources. The Sotho group on the other hand had trekked to the interior of South Africa which is larger than Natal but they also ultimately started experiencing the scarcity of resources and started fighting among themselves. That situation led to the Difaqane uprising. After the Difaqane uprising large Chiefdoms of indigenous people emerged. The Eurocentric curriculum was introduced to schools that were also established by the colonial powers. This made it easy for the western ways of doing things to gradually replace the indigenous ways of doing things. After independence African leaders started realising that western trained graduates could not solve the day to day problems of their communities because they were train to solve problems in advanced western countries. Problems in developing countries were different from problems in developed countries. One group of king Malope's people wanted the first born child of the senior house who was a female to be the heir to the king's throne and the second group wanted the first born child of the junior house who was a male to be the heir to the king's throne because he was a boy. The two groups did not agree and ended up splitting into two lineages. The group that is under focus in this book is the one led by the first born child of the junior house namely Mogopa. This group experienced difficulties throughout their history, but they ultimately managed to solve those difficulties. These difficulties were caused by climatic conditions of the seventeenth century as well as the many battles that they fought with other tribes.
