Description: This is from an edition limited to 1250 copies; this is number 492, and is Signed by Glenn St Charles, the commissioner of this series. Frontis. Decorative chapter caps. This title was third in the Legends of the Longbow series. The introductory note states ''A true story of Confederates Maurice and Will Thompson. Maurice, the older, received a chest wound in the Civil War Battle of Cold Harbor in 1864. From there, the brothers trekked to their home in the Cherokee Valley of Georgia only to find it destroyed. In 1866, to find solitude and allow Maurice to recover from his wounds, they decided to spend some time camping, fishing, and hunting around the great Okefinokee Swamp of southern Georgia and Lake Okechobee in the Florida Everglades. Deprived of firearms by the Federals, they fashioned bows and arrow from the hardwood forests. Seasoned swamp reeds made excellent arrows, and they used many. In the ensuing years spent hunting turkeys, small animals and birds on the wing, they became very good bowmen. They reluctantly left the swamps when their father bid them home to study. Will studied law but continued his love for archery and competed in many tournaments. Maurice studied engineering and law. He had kept an exhaustive record of their swamp adventures. From those notes, he launched his literary career in 1878 publishing The Witchery of Archery. When the National Archery Association was founded in 1879, Maurice became its first president.'' BINDING/CONDITION: from a series with uniform bindings; dark green faux leather with gilt text and vignette; all edges gilt, Very Good+ condition. ISBN: B005EGWN96.
