First edition of this very scarce promotional pamphlet touting the Firestone Demountable Rim, a demountable wheel rim which allowed a flat tire to be unbolted…and replaced by another that already had the spare tire mounted. This was the prototype of the famed Ford "wide five" wheel pattern that would last for decades. Photo illustration on the back cover shows a Locomobile winning the Founders' Week Cup in Philadelphia, Oct. 10, 1908 on Firestone Demountable Rims.

Il développa avec ses collaborateurs un intérêt grandissant pour l'américanisme et fonda la toute première société américaniste de France à Paris. Fils d'un pharmacien de Boulogne-sur-Mer, après ses deux baccalauréats il poursuit ses études à la Faculté de médecine de Paris. En 1864, externe à la Salpêtrière dans le service du docteur Charcot, il rencontre Paul Broca qui a créé en 1859 la Société d'anthropologie de Paris. Plus intéressé par l'anthropologie physique que par la médecine proprement dite, il le suit à Saint-Antoine et obtient d'assister aux séances de la Société. En 1867, il devient membre à part entière de la Société d'anthropologie qui le charge de recueillir pour son musée les crânes mis au jour lors de travaux dans les cimetières du nouvel Hôtel Dieu. Cette même année, dans le cadre de la préparation de l'Exposition Universelle, il est chargé de l'étude de momies et de crânes égyptiens rassemblés par Mariette. Après sa thèse, P. Broca le prend comme assistant au laboratoire d'études anthropologiques de l'École pratique des hautes études. En 1869, en raison du succès de l'exposition égyptienne, il est invité en Égypte pour l'inauguration du canal de Suez. Il y recueille des artéfact préhistoriques. Il remplace en 1872 l'assistant malade d'Armand de Quatrefages, titulaire de la chaire d'anthropologie du Muséum national d'histoire naturelle, et reprend définitivement son poste en 1873, devenant aide-naturaliste. Quatrefages et Hamy précisent les mensurations et indices de base des inventaires ostéologiques et rédigent Crania ethnica (1875-1882), travail basé sur des données anthropologiques françaises et étrangères, similaire au Crania de Thurnam et Davis et au Crania Americana and Crania Aegyptiaca de S. G. Morton. Ils contribuent à la formation de l'anthropologie préhistorique et identifient la « race de Cro-Magnon » en 1878. Ernest Hamy est l'un des premiers en France à reconnaître l'homme de Néandertal. En 1892, à la mort de Quatrefages, il devient titulaire de la chaire d'anthropologie du Muséum. Ses intérêts se sont toujours étendus au-delà l'anthropologie physique : traditions locales du Nord, archéologie, puis de plus en plus ethnographie, dont il est en France l'un des fondateurs.

First edition, thus, of this exceedingly scarce sales promotional catalogue for the General Jumbo Balloon Tire issued just as the country began the descent into the Great Depression. The oversize pneumatic tires developed by General Tire were first used on Ford Model T trucks, and Ford Model T's, but quickly proved their durability and by the end of the 1920's were the fastest selling truck tire in the United States. These excellent photo images provide not only references for the many companies that General Tire supplied, but also the tremendous range of truck manufacturers, and commercial advertising many companies sported during the 1920's - 1930's. Truck brands depicted in the album include REO Speedwagon, Mack, American-LaFrance, White, Wichita, Fageol & more. Businesses ranged from Hemingway Bros. a moving company in Providence, RI to Franklin Ice Cream Co. in Minneapolis, MN, along with bread trucks, tankers, cement mixers, and others. Founded in 1915, General Tire & Rubber grew quickly, adding plants in Texas, Kentucky Ohio, & North Carolina, eventually expanding into aerospace, defense contracting, entertainment, tennis ball production and plastics. In 1987, General Tire tire operations were sold to Continental, and later to Continental General Tire. No copies in Worldcat.

Montréal, Granger Frères Ltée, Paris et Tournai, Établissement Casterman, 1925 à 1936, reliures d'époque demi-cuir rouge avec auteur, titre et tomaison doré au dos, plats marbrés, dos à nerfs, couvertures souples d'origine conservées, environ 26 X 17 cm, 800, 800, 676, 673 et 710 pages. Les…reliures sont en très bon état ou mieux, avec seulement un peu d'usure légère aux coins droits des plat découvrant ces même coins qui sont de toute façon recouverts sous le papier par de la toile rouge (voir images). Le premier volume cependant montre un fendillement à trois coins de la charnière du dos, de plus une portion de cuir de la tète du dos a été recollée de belle façon laissant peu de trace de l'opération. Les intérieurs sont en excellent état sans rien à signaler qui soit digne de mention SAUF Une petite déchirure à la marge droite de la page 723 du second volu,e. La déchirure touche une petite partie du texte mais n'en empêche pas la bonne lecture. Un ensemble très rare. ATTENTION ; ensemble de près de 7 kg. Un envoi hors Québec risque d'être très onéreux, ne vous fiez pas aux frais d'envoi indiqués par Abebooks, demandez-moi directement AVANT de commandersinon vous aurez de mauvaises surprises.

Krabbe, Pictures & Picture Framing, Vancouver, Wash, now fitted on archival foam core, and original acidic backing removed, preserving original framers label. This remarkable ph…oto records the dealers who won prizes for the Goodyear-Zeppelin Company's annual "Zeppelin Race" which rewarded those who had the highest sales over a two month period across the country. Just behind the dealers spread out, is a Goodyear promotional car pulling a giant oversized Goodyear Tire, the Goodyear planes are located off to the left, with aviation tires packed in crates setting on a flatbed truck, and the airship hanger for the USS Akron sets in the background. Of additional interest is that the prize for the 1931 Zeppelin Races was a large photo by Margaret Bourke-White of the Akron, framed in Duralumin used in the construction of the airship. Vorwerk (1896-1985) was a successful commercial photographer for Goodyear Rubber & Tire Company during the 1920s and 1930s until World War II.

Oblong 4to. 10.5 x 10 in. One colour lithograph 100-piece puzzle assembled and backed on board, shrunkwrap to preserve the pieces, with original printed souvenir mailing envelope, NF/VG copy. First edition of this nicely executed jigsaw puzzle automobile safety advertisement touting the 1920's innovations by the U.S. Rubber Co.…tires, with this one featuring "Cog Wheel Traction, and tempered rubber to ensure traction in rainy driving conditions. The puzzle depicts a boy and overturned wagon at an intersection underneath the bumper of a 1920's sedan being admonished by a dapperly dressed driver. U.S. Rubber Co., one of the original 12 stocks listed on the Dow Jones, originally produced rubber gloves and rubber footwear, and by the 1920's were producing automobile tires. They later purchased Gillette Safety Tire Co., and are now known as the Uniroyal brand. Clifton (1892-1957) began as chauffeur for the Venice, CA police department before World War I, and later owned a popular service station with Marshall (1894-1974) until the Great Depression, when he went to work as landscaper for a movie studio, while Marshall would become an automotive parts store owner.
