Important in both the history of etiquette and gastronomy, it places the reader in the position of the child in Renaissance France, having to listen to the 'dos and don'ts' of life around the table. [.] The current edition is the first English edition of Les Contenances de la table. Our purpose in issuing it is to make the text more accessible to scholars and collectors. Although there are two nineteenth-century reprints, one issued by the Roxburghe Club (1816, published in thirty-eight copies) and another by A.
