Second printing of this peculiar, misogynistic work of supposed non-fiction by The Count of Torriggia. A "study compiled for the moral welfare of mankind," the volume is purportedly a groundbreaking analysis of psychopathy, in which the author demonstrates "how dangerous pre-natal influences contaminate the unborn child." The work claims that if its insights were put into practice, the result would be an elimination of mental illness. The book contains an epigraph from the author, "WOMEN BEWARE FOR YOUR MINDS WIELD THE INFLUENCES THAT CONTROL THE DESTINY OF YOUR CHILDREN," followed by a warning from the publisher, "This book is for adults only, especially recommended to all men and women connected with the Medical Profession." The dustjacket promotes the author's forthcoming work, The Mystery of Cancer Solved, which claims to have discovered the "master key" to the eradication of cancer, arguing that "the evidence presented cannot be ignored or disproved." The author was born Giuseppe Golaccio. He first changed his name to Joseph Syndica-Drummond, before later renouncing it in favor Joseph Syndica-Drummond Count of Torriggia in March 1950. He claimed to have received his title from Pope Pius XII in a private audience in that same year. A minor far-right and antisemitic figure of his time, he also wrote on The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Publisher's black cloth, spine gilt lettered, pictorial dustjacket. 224 pp. 7 1/4 x 4 3/4 in. Good; dustjacket rubbed at extremities and with some small chips and tears, boards soiled, endpapers foxed and browned.
