Buch
Hardcover. Zustand: Good. "Here is "Gesang des Abgeschiedenen" by Georg Trakl (1887 - 1921). The title translates as "Song of the Departed". This is the edition published in Leipzig by Insel in 1950, being number 436 in their Insel - Bucherri series. The book is handsomely dressed, as were all of the Insel-Bucherri products, in a lithographed repeating pattern in red printed on a ecru colored paper. The front board and spine have printed paper title labels. The book is now OP. ******************************************* Georg Trakl is considered to have been Austria's leading expressionist poet. His early death at the age of 27 due to an overdose of cocaine in a military hospital, was a tragedy for the literary world. The book includes what is deemed his most famous poem, "Grodek", in which he briefly , but succinctly, describes what he experienced at the bloody battle of Grodek in World War I. He served in the Austro-Hungarian army that was so decisively defeated by the Russian army in 1914. Trakl wrote the poem shortly before his death. ****************************************** This copy has a lovely bookplate, obviously designed by Rockwell Kent. The name on the plate is P. A. Pletnioff. I have not been able to find out anything about Pletnioff, but I think he, or she, may have been a literary critic. At the back of the book is the table of Contents , which has a number of small check-marks made by the owner - I presume Pletnioff. (See picture supplied) **************************************** SERIES : Insel - Bucherri (No. 436) / TITLE : Gesang des Abgeschiedenen / AUTHOR : Georg Trakl (1887 - 1914) / IMPRINT : Insel / PLACE : Leipzig, Germany / DATE : 1950 / STATUS : OP - Out of Print / PHYSICAL DETAILS : Petite Hardcover; [64] pages; approx. 4 1/2" x 7"; decorated paper-covered boards . The cover is decorated, front and back with a repeating motif printed in red in a diamond grid pattern (picturing a sprig or branch or simple representation of a pine tree), Paper title labels on spine and front cover, printed in red and black. ************************************* CONDITION - GOOD PLUS -This is a previously owned book (having the bookplate of the original owner), which remains clean and presetable, with the following particulars noted: EXTERIOR : Abrasion and small loss to head of spine; compression and moderate abrasion to foot of spine; spine title label is lightly toned; spine and joints are rubbed and slightly darkened; boards display mild surface rub; title label on front is slightly toned, else clear. Corner tips of boards are abraded and split. / BINDING : IT is obviously that the book has been read, and thus the text-block is not as tight as when issued, however, the whole remains solid, with no detached or loose leaves. / INTERIOR : End-papers are considerably toned; the paper throughout is lightly toned. There are a number of minute check-marks on the Table of Contents at the rear of the book, else the interior is clean and free of marking. No writing - no signatures. The front paste-down does have the original owner's bookplate - with name P. A. Pletnioff. the bookplate is obviouly a design by Rockwell Kent. (see picture).

Buch
Copertina morbida. Zustand: Buona. 165 p. ; 21 x 13 cm. BUR. Poesia. Edizione bilingue. Brossura editoriale, coperta illustrata a colori in cartoncino flessibile. Qualche segno del tempo alla coperta, pagine interne leggermente ingiallite per il resto libro in buono stato.
