The first English-language edition of Shen Congwen's collection of short fiction, which includes his masterpiece novella "The Frontier City" or "Bian Cheng," now generally translated as "Border Town." Shen is considered one of the greatest modern Chinese novelists, though his fiction writing came to an end under the pressure of the Chinese Communist regime.
