He was serving with Pershing's Headquarters when the orders came through to assign serial number in 1918. He enlisted in 1897, and served in the 14th Infantry. He saw service in the Spanish-American war, Boxer Rebellion, Mexican Border, and WW1.

Fitzhugh Lee, and Superintendent of the Department of Charities under General Leonard Wood. He also worked with the Reed Yellow Fever Board.
