Im Mittelpunkt der neuzeitlichen Wahrnehmungsproblematik steht die Differenz zwischen dem Gegebenen und dem Gemeinten. Indem die Wahrnehmung mehr meint, als ihr eigentlich gegeben ist, erhebt sie einen erkenntnistheoretischer Rechtfertigung bedürftigen Anspruch. Nachdem der Autor zunächst für die Möglichkeit und Notwendigkeit einer phänomenologischen Bestimmung des Bewusstseins von innen gegenüber jeder in naturwissenschaftlicher Einstellung erfolgenden Aussenbetrachtung argumentiert, versucht er im Folgenden in kritischer Auseinandersetzung mit den phänomenologischen Wahrnehmungstheorien von E. Husserl, A. Gurwitsch und M. Merleau-Ponty die Verengung des Wahrnehmungsproblems auf ein Erkenntnisproblem zu überwinden. Die im Prozess der phänomenologischen Klärung hervortretenden Aporien einer intellektualistischen Deutung der Wahrnehmung als propositionaler Akt bewirken eine Radikalisierung und Verwandlung der Wahrnehmungsproblematik. Die Vorgegebenheit einer Welt für Akte ausdrücklicher Erkenntnis konstituiert sich allererst in einem allem urteilenden Auffassen und Erkennen noch zugrundeliegenden Wahrnehmungsgeschehen.
