Paperback. Zustand: new. Paperback. The first responders to India's climate challengesUnder colonial rule in India in 1917, Mohandas K Gandhi led a satyagraha alongside local farmers in Bihar, resulting in what would become the non-violent movement for India's independence. More than a century later, one of the largest non-violent farmers' protests in recent world history took place in New Delhi. The unrest began in Punjab and Haryana in June 2020 and reached India's capital city in November 2020. By January 2021 hundreds of thousands of farmers and farm labourers demonstrated against three draconian farm laws passed at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The farmers' protest continued until the Indian Government finally relented and withdrew the laws. Most people living in towns and cities in India today have been cut off from their rural roots. They know little about how their food reaches them from farm to table. They know even less about the lives of the farmers and farm labourers who produce this food. Farmers' Protest tries to bridge this gap as it narrates why Indian farmers were compelled to resist, and how they are the first responders to the challenges created by climate change. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2017 in the subject Engineering - Civil Engineering, grade: 9.15, Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Institute of Engineering and Technology, language: English, abstract: In structural analyses, masonry infill walls are commonly considered to be non-structural elements. However, the response of reinforced concrete buildings to earthquake loads can be substantially affected by the influence of infill walls. In this article, an improved numerical model for the simulation of the behavior of masonry infill walls subjected to earthquake loads is used. The main objective of the study is to investigate the importance of semi-interlocked brick infill in multi-storied buildings it uses masonry panels made of dry stack interlocking masonry units capable of relative sliding in a plane and interlocked to prevent sliding out-of-plane. This masonry panels acting as energy dissipation devices (EDD). An analytical program is based on to evaluate the behavior of different framed masonry panels. It is found that semi-interlocked masonry (SIM) panels have significant energy dissipation capacity due to friction between the masonry units. In this work, the primary focus is given to numerical modeling and nonlinear behavior of brick masonry buildings subjected to lateral loads.…
