Unknown Binding. Zustand: Very Good. Athens : The Gennadius Library, 1981]. Soft cover, 38 pp. A Survey of the Collections by Francis R. Walton, with the assistance of T.E. [From Preface] The publication of this book was made possible by the firm ?Hellenic Shipyards? and by the Friends of the Gennadius Library. Mrs. L. Braggiotti supervised the layout of the text and pictures, and Eugene Vanderpool Jr. did the photography. The American School of Classical Studies at Athens is pleased to present, in the one-hundredth year of its founding, this short description of the collections in the Gennadius Library. Since the time of the magnificent gift by Joannes Gennadius of his private collection over half a century ago, the library has grown steadily in its holdings of rare books, research materials, archives and works of art, so that it is now one of the major libraries in the world. We are especially proud to make available to scholars from all countries, and particularly to the intellectual community in Greece, a library whose basic concept from its inception has been to contain not only specialized collections of materials related to antiquity, the Middle Ages, and Modern Greece, but to comprise in its holdings all things Hellenic. We hope that the present volume will help scholars and the general public to obtain a better understanding of Gennadius' vision.

Soft cover. Zustand: VG. 23pp extract, printed in double columns, illustrated with 12 portrait drawings, first page of part I-only was damaged, and is here presented in reproduction, salvaged from a damaged issue of McClure's Magazine, Volume XV, Nos. 4 - 6, August / September / October, 1900. From the Editor's Note, "The following story is the first of a series by Josiah Flynt and Francis Walton, men who have spent many years studying the criminal classes. Their methods are original. They live among the criminals and are known amongst the 'profession' as men of their own class. It is needless to say that their life amongst them is not to break the laws, but to understand as thoroughly as possible the motives and methods of that great part of the community which they describe as The Under-World." Housed in protective mylar report cover.
