Softcover. Zustand: Gut. 1. Auflage. B : 21 × 27 cm, Unpaginated - This early and extensively illustrated exhibition catalogue was produced on the occasion of Andy Warhol s 1968 exhibition at Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the artist s first major museum presentation outside of the United States. The retrospective exhibition featured some of Warhol s most famous motifs Marilyn Monroe, flowers, the electric chair, Brillo boxes and its unconventional installation, which included covering the museum s façade with the artist s now-famous cow wallpaper, offered the public an unforgettable experience. Edited by Warhol, Kasper König, Pontus Hultén, and Olle Granath, the publication contains copious illustrations of Warhol s work, as well as over three hundred black-and-white photographs that capture the artist s life in the late 1960s by photographers such as Rudolph Burckhardt, Billy Name, Eric Pollitzer, John D. Schiff, and Stephen Shore. In lieu of essays, the catalogue contains a selection of short quotes by Warhol, published in both English and Swedish. This is where Warhol s arguably most famous statement was first seen in print: In the future everybody will be world famous for fifteen minutes.

Third edition. Text in English and Swedish. Housed in the scarce original publisher's printed cardboard box. The exhibition catalog for Andy Warhol's first European museum show, held at the Moderna Museet from February through March, 1968. The catalog was designed by Kasper König, who commissioned noted photographer Billy Name and a then-teenage Stephen Shore to document Warhol's life and work at The Factory on 231 East 47th Street. The resultant publication resembles an artist's book as much as an exhibition catalog, and is composed of (intentionally crude) reproductions of Warhol's most iconic works alongside snapshots of the Factory taken by Name. The catalog was widely influential, particularly on Japanese photography of the late 1960s and 1970s Book: Near Fine in perfect-bound wrappers, with a single faint vertical crease on the spine and minute wear on the corners. Front wrapper bright and colorful with no fading. Box: Very Good condition, with light soil and wear overall, and one flap detached (but present).

Erstausgabe
First Edition. First Edition. Copy belonging to Brenda Richardson, head curator at the Baltimore Museum of Art between 1970-1997, with her ownership name and "1968" annotated in ink on the inside front wrapper. Published on the occasion of the Andy Warhol exhibition at the Museet in Stockholm, February through March, 1968. Text in English and Swedish. One of the most distinguished art curators and historians of the twentieth century, Brenda Richardson began her career at the University Art Museum in Berkeley (1964-1975), and went on to become the chief curator at the Baltimore Museum Art between 1975 and 1998. An unapologetic champion of contemporary art, she curated well over 70 major exhibitions for the BMA, the high spots being stagings for Frank Stella, Brice Marden, Barnett Newman, and Bruce Nauman. She also curated the 1985 exhibition of the Cone Collection, the BMA's prized centerpiece, which contains over 3000 works, including 600 pieces by Matisse, as well as work by Picasso, Cezanne, Gauguin, and others. She has authored and contributed to dozens of books on contemporary art, and John Waters, one of the most major champions of contemporary art in the world, considers Richardson to be his mentor. Easily Near Fine in perfect-bound wrappers as issued. Parr and Badger, The Photobook: A History Volume I, p. 144-145.

Softcover. Zustand: vg+ to fine. 1/100. Quarto. (10 1/2 x 8 1/4"). Unpaginated. Original illustrated floral wrappers, with black lettering to spine. The is special limited edition is distinguished by having the edges of the book block in gilt, and its original plexiglas slipcase. Publisher's original slipcase itself housed within a larger modern custom built slipcase to protect the plexiglas. Signed by Warhol on the title page. From a limited edition of only 100 copies printed. Warhol's Stockholm Catalogue was published as an exhibition catalogue for his first European museum show at the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, February - March, 1968. The concept of the catalogue was developed by Kasper König, who commissioned Billy Name, photographer of 'The Factory,' and a teenage Stephen Store, to photograph how Warhol and his co-conspirators lived and worked. 'The Factory' opened in 1964 when Warhol moved his studio to 231 East 47th Street and immediately became a hub for the creative energies of New York in the 1960s. This extremely scarce and desirable deluxe second edition of the catalog was fist conceived in reaction to the popularity of the first edition. According to editor Olle Granath the 100 copies were printed, but were never signed by Warhol as intended at the time. They remained in a box and were forgotten. In 1976 Warhol returned to Sweden and was able to sign the books so that they were finally able to be distributed for the first time. Warhol's Moderna Museet catalog "is a fine example of the catalogue-as-artist's-book, a form that ostensibly began with the Dadaists and Surrealists, and is produced with some of the roughest reproductions ever seen, which are entirely appropriate, and supplemented by a long section of Factory snapshots by Billy Name. The genre was revitalized by the Pop movement, and Warhol in particular, which demonstrates his position as a latter-day Dadaist. The Moderna Museet publication especially had a great influence upon Japanese photography in the late 1960s and 1970s, particularly the photobooks of the Provoke era" (Parr and Badger, Vol II). Limited initial text in English and Swedish. Minor rubbing to extremities to wrappers, and some light creases along the spine. Plexiglass slipcase and custom slipcase in fine, softcover wrappers in very good+. Interior in near fine. Slipcases in fine, wrappers in very good+, interior in near fine condition. Wrappers and plexiglas slipcase protected in modern mylar. Parr & Badger II, pp. 144-5. Second edition (limited special edition).
