The empasis is on the effect of stresses and elasticity on volumes of wood, stone, concrete, steel, etc., to points of shear, deformation, or fracture. About 837 non-consecutively numbered pages, with tables, figures, and halftones; plus vii pages, Preface, and Contents; plus 13 pages, Index; References intermittently at chapter ends, or footnoted. DJ is scraped, tattered, shows color loss, and has been patch-taped; boards are clean and sound; text is strong and clean, excepting pages XIX-10, which has a smudge, and XXIV-1, which has pencil underlinings.
