Olive green cloth binding with gilt titles and decorations. Binding sound. The ends of spine are lightly crushed. Top front corner has a knock at junction of spine and board with board showing. There is also a small depression with broken cloth at the top edge of front board. Both bottom free corners of boards a little knocked. Neat gift inscription to half title. Title page, half title, several pages of text and some tissue guards have quite heavy foxing, sporadic elsewhere. The plates are unaffected. Two plates have slight damage, one with a minor corner crease, the other with a small spot of surface loss. These faults together define the book as a good copy only, but the plates are almost entirely clean and without defects. Photos available on request. A heavy book -overseas ABE commerce customers may be asked for additional postage at cost.

Text in Danish, this "de luxe" edition was printed in Denmark the same year as the English release. "Rackham's" Rip Van Winkel "is among the most thoroughly illustrated books of English. Since the text is brief, his fifty illustrations, which are grouped at the end, come at the rate of one to every two or three sentences" (Ray 328). Light shelf/edge wear. minor fraying at head and heel, owner bookplate at front pastedown, small ownership signature at ffep, moisture stain at bottom corner of boards (slight discoloration to preliminaries, slight rumple to textblock, does not effect any plates), joints starting, else tight, bright and unmarred. In March 1905, Rackham's original watercolours were exhibited and sold at the Leicester Galleries which led to the deluxe edition being fully subscribed before the exhibition had closed. This copy includes a receipt from Bickers & Son, Ltd, Booksellers, Bookbinders and Publishers, of Charles Street, Haymarket, London, dated 9 November 1927. The purchaser was a C. P. MacArthur, Esq., Junior, although the account was care of Dr Shearer of the Grosvenor Library in Buffalo, New York. Augustus Hunt Shearer (1878-1941) was also especially active in the Bibliographical Society of America, serving on the Council of the Society for many years.
