Of the approximately 1,000 poems that Riley wrote, the majority are in dialect. His famous works include "Little Orphant Annie" and "The Raggedy Man". A pencilled note on the back of the envelope by a knowledgeable printer and collector of Bradley material states "probably the first specimen book Bradley did for Strathmore", indicating possibly an 1896 or 1897 date.
