Wraps. Zustand: Good. First edition. A small area of paper loss to front cover edge; else in Very Good condition. Wraps; 25 pages. A promotional brochure with 72 drawings and photographs depicting the Jeep Universal on and about the farm. Includes information on mechanical parts, industrial tools, and farm implements for use wit…h the Jeep; technical data, graphs. Quite scarce in any condition, and a valuable addition for the Jeep and Willys Collector. "The Jeep legend began in November 1940, in the early days of World War II, just a year before the United States entered the war. A small, four-wheel drive prototype, the Willys "Quad", was delivered to the US Army. It featured the Willys "Go-Devil" engine, developed by Delmar "Barney" Roos. With 60 horsepower and 105 foot-pounds of torque it not only exceeded the Army's requirement, but dwarfed the Bantam's 83 and Ford's 85 pound-feet of torque, it's only competitors for the military contract. The Quad was the father of the MB, CJ series, and Wrangler. "At the close of World War II, Willys realized that it could leverage its wartime fame and enter the consumer vehicle market under an already well-known brand name. The first "civilian" Jeep was the CJ-2A, also known as the "Universal". It offered features not found on the military MB model, including a tailgate, side-mounted spare tire, higher windshield and larger headlights. The retail price was $1,090 and the CJ-2A was produced from 1945 to 1949. "Willys-Overland introduced the CJ-3A model in 1949 to replace the CJ-2A, possibly due to a "slump" in CJ-2A sales, bringing with it a few reasonable minor interior updates with regard to comfort and drivability. The CJ-3A was part of the Universal CJ series, a model intended for agricultural and industrial applications in the civilian market, an area in which Willys-Overland felt it would be a good fit, as the CJ employed the same ?utilitarian? features that gave the MB model great success in WWII.".

[TRADE CATALOGUE]. 6 3/4" x 5 3/8" color, pictorial wrappers, n. p. (12 pp.), illustrated in color, specifications. First edition of this rare Willys-Knight promotional brochure for the Model 64 series which were powered by the 4-cylinder sleeve valve Knight Engine, and vehicle lineup featured a 5-passenger touring sedan, 7-pass…enger touring sedan, 3-passenger roadster, and 5-passenger coupe sedan. John North Willys purchased the Edwards Motor Car Company of Long Island, New York, in 1913, moving the operation to Elyria, Ohio, where Willys owned the plant that had previously manufactured the Garford automobile. Production began with a four-cylinder model which was priced in the $2,500 price range. The Willys-Knight employed a Knight sleeve valve engine, generally four- and six-cylinder models. Oblong 4to. 11 x 8 in. Recent calf 3-ring binder, gilt lettering on spine, rounded corners (interior thumbing & toning), still a VG exemplar. First edition of this exceedingly scarce dealer factory album for the 1913 Willys-Overland automobiles, the year it marketed not only the Model 69, but also the more expensive Model 71 automobiles, and the Model 69 Open Express delivery truck. The album opens with photo of John Willys, an automobile dealer from Elmira, NY who had taken over Willys in 1908 when it was in danger of collapsing, in order to salvage a large order for 500 cars. The birds-eye view of the factory shows the massive space in Toledo, OH, followed by images of the Overland Models 69-T Touring Car, 69-F 4-passenger Torpedo, 69-R 2-passenger Roadster, 69-C 3-passenger Coupe, 71-T 5-passenger Touring Car, 71-F 4-passenger Torpedo, and the higher powered 71-R Roadster. The 69 and 71 Roadsters were powered by smaller 4-cylinder 25 horsepower engine, and 4.8 liter 30 horsepower for the Model 71. Photos also show the engines, the sturdy chassis, and an invaluable visual tour of the Willys-Overland laboratory, testing machinery, stamping equipment, the workers in the frame shop and foundry, as well as those working on the engine and body finishing departments. By 1912, the Willys-Overland Co. was the second largest automobile manufacturer in the United States behind Ford Motor Co., and was producing over 25,000 cars annually with more than 5000 employees, and the 1913 also offered their early electric starting and lighting systems as additional costs to the purchaser. First edition of this exceedingly scarce dealer factory album for the 1914 Willys-Overland automobiles, which introduced their spacious popular series of 79 automobiles, including Touring Car, Coupe & Roadster. First edition, No. 584, of this exceedingly scarce dealer factory album for the 1912 Willys-Overland automobiles, the year it was renamed and before it had acquired the license to build Charles Knight's famed sleeve-valve engines which would power Willys-Overland cars for decades. The album opens with photo of John Willys, an automobile dealer from Elmira, NY who had taken over Willys in 1908 when it was in danger of collapsing, in order to salvage a large order for 500 cars. The birds-eye view of the factory shows the massive space in Toledo, OH, followed by images of the Overland Models 58-R, 59-R Roadster, 59-T 5-passenger Touring car, the 59-C 3-passenger Coupe, the Overland Model 59-Delivery truck, 60-F 4-passenger Touring Car, 60-T 5-Passenger - Fore Door Touring Car, beautiful 61-R 2-passenger Roadster, and finally the top-of-the-line 61-T Overland-Willys Touring Car.
