A fine survey of the geology, archaeology, natural history and economic, social and settlement history of the Weald, constituting an important early volume in the New Naturalist series. Sidney William Wooldridge (1900-63), geomorphologist and geographer, was a founder member of the Institute of British Geographers in 1935 and served as Professor of Geography at King's College, London, 1947-63. Frederick Goldring (b.1897) hosted field courses at his house in the Weald and took the photographs for this volume. Second reprint of the first edition of 1953.
