Under the Work Progress Administration famous writers went back to work on a steady paycheck. DJ spine tape repaired. Otherwise with small chipping and some closed tears. One closed tear was fixed oddly enough with a colorful poststamp on front bottom DJ. Boards with light rubbing to extremities. The slightest of fading to the gilt lettering. Former owner's name on half-title page. A handsome and tight copy - as rare as it gets.; The North Dakota guide is one of the hardest ones to find. The first printrun was only about 3,000 copies and the printer broke up the type afterwards (In comparison: The IOWA guide had a printrun of 10,000 copies for the first edition). Thanks to the great efforts of Ethel Schlasinger, Director of the Writers' Project in North Dakota, this guide was published in a timely manner - much earlier than many other volumes of the American Guide Series. Ethel Schlasinger was quite possibly the most talented state director and with just 20 years old, the youngest. - Green cloth boards with gilt lettering.
