This manual has been substantially rewritten for a more logical flow of text topics within a given test. Some rewriting was also required so that the covered laboratory tests adhere more closely to the ASTM and AASHTO standards for testing of soils. Please note that the data sheets and other notation have been revised to comply with correct SI units of mass determinations rather than weights. The term weigh is consistently used for determining the mass but there is a clear distinction between unit density p and the computed unit weight y. The diskette provided replaces the Fortran computer program listings given in the third edition. Those programs have been edited for screen prompts, and two programs for soil classification are added. All programs have been compiled for immediate execution either with or without a math co-processor chip present. The diskette provides the user with programs for Tests 5, 6, 13, 14, 15, and 16 and for Project 8. The same program is used for Tests 14, 15, and 16 because of the similarity in data reduction. There is a README.LAB text file on the disk for the user to print which gives details on using these several programs. There are also sample data sets for all but the two soil classification programs.
