It is said that the effectiveness of a joke depends on the way the teller delivers it: 'It's the way you tell them' is an often-heard dictum. In using that title I also hoped to suggest that the 'hero' of the novel had not found the right way to tell his enemies what he thought of them, had in fact been corrupted and assimilated by them.
