This book, a historical and theological exploration of the development of ecclesiastical ordination from the early church period onward, traces the historical precedent for the ordination of both priests and apostles. The author, writing in the 17th century, uses biblical exegesis to trace the roots and evolution of ordination practices, arguing that the episcopal system of ordination can be traced back to the earliest days of Christianity. The author heavily emphasizes the importance of the laying on of hands for the transmission of the Holy Ghost and the authority to administer the sacraments. The book is an invaluable resource for understanding the historical and theological foundations of ordination in the Christian church.
