Lorimer was an Australian poet known as the 'Bush Poet' because he drew inspiration from his own experiences as a squatter in Queensland. The book contains pieces on his travels through the Gulf country, his experiences of living in the wilderness, and his encounters with the people who shaped the landscape of colonial Australia. The book also includes love songs, poems on nature and philosophy, and several occasional pieces. Lorimer's verse testifies to the richness and diversity of life in rural Australia, and the challenges and joys of living in a rapidly changing country.
