This book provides an authentic account of the efforts by King James II to ascertain the true state of affairs in Ireland following his succession to the throne. These letters, written from the Earl of Clarendon to the Lord President in 1685, explore various military matters and political dynamics. With a detailed examination of the political climate of the time, the letters provide insights into the motivations behind James's actions, including his intentions to increase the power of the Catholic Church and the Irish population.
