Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book, a chronological narrative, follows French artist Eugà ne Delacroix from the age of 38 to 49, 1847-1856. A prolific painter, Delacroixâs personal journal offers insights into the burgeoning art scene in early 19th-century Paris, including his interactions with Chopin, Dumas, George Sand, Victor Hugo, Balzac and others. His travels and thoughts on philosophy, politics and society provide the backdrop for this memoir. From the overthrow of the monarchy in 1848 to the rise of Napoleon III and the Crimean War, Delacroix was a keen observer of French history and culture, and this volume offers an opportunity to look through the eyes of a great Romantic artist.
