The author, an English gentleman writing after the Glorious Revolution of 1688, insists on the rights and responsibilities of subjects and rulers. He argues that the people of England have a just claim to their ancient liberties, including the right to bear arms, to be governed by laws of their own making, and to have their grievances addressed by Parliament. He also examines the nature of monarchy and the proper relationship between the king and his people. This book is a valuable contribution to the history of political thought, providing insights into the development of democratic ideas in England.
