This book advocates for free Biblical criticism while challenging the destructive higher criticism of the Old Testament, arguing that much of it is based on speculative theories that are not supported by any proper proof. The author acknowledges the contributions of modern critical study but is concerned that some theories undermine belief in the truth and authority of the Holy Scriptures. The book provides a detailed analysis of the theories of the 'neo-critics' and offers a defense of the traditional view of the Old Testament, arguing that it has a real foundation in historic fact and provides a sound basis for Christian preaching. The author believes that accepting the theories of the 'neo-critics' would have a negative impact on the power and confidence of preachers and would undermine the religious value of the Old Testament.
