This book is an anthology of songs created and collected by the Silver Lake Quartette, a group of singers that contributed to the Prohibition movement of the late 19th century. The songs are hymns, folk songs, and anthems, all imbued with the Quartette's passion for temperance and their belief in the restorative power of Prohibition. The songs were highly influential on the temperance movement, and their publication here gives a fascinating insight into the history of the movement, the motivations of its supporters, and the tactics they used to make their case to the American public. The songs are not just historical documents, however, they are also spirited and enjoyable, and this book will be enjoyed by anyone interested in traditional American music. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
