This book shines a light on the resplendent wrought-iron grilles of Renaissance Spain, known as rejas, that flourished as an art form during a period of national elation. Unlike Gothic work, which was largely uniform across Europe, the reja was uniquely Spanish; rejeros, who were often sculptors and architects, traveled great distances to compete for cathedral commissions, leading to superb examples. The author discusses the evolution of the reja from simple screens to magnificent creations, examining the techniques and materials used, as well as the symbolism and significance of various motifs. The analysis of notable rejas in major cathedrals provides insight into the artistic, historical, and cultural context of the period. This book not only showcases the beauty of these architectural masterpieces but also highlights the artistic ingenuity and technical prowess of Spanish artisans during the Renaissance. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
