Spurred on by the post-war demand for increased governmental involvement, the mid-twentieth-century saw a boom in the construction of new public buildings both locally and nationally. The author, working with the Division of Community Planning, sought to address the specific issue of ill-suited buildings and the inefficient use of government space. The report sought to forecast future needs of public agencies within the area and to present recommendations for addressing these issues. The report found that city agencies while concentrated in the downtown corridor and the county courthouse faced a shortage of office space, parking, and poor physical conditions. Satellite agencies tended to be better off in these areas. The author's observations found that the rapid growth of the area and the increased demand for government services would only increase these pressures. Projections for personnel increases and their space needs led the author to suggest that several new office buildings be constructed along with new parking facilities. The utility commission was identified as particularly pressed for space and deserving of its own facilities. The author also suggested the demolition of the substandard Old Hospital Building which was then occupied by six local agencies.
