Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book chronicles the Reformation's profound impact on the English Church and its influence on English history. Challenging conventional assumptions that trace the roots of the Reformation to men like Wiclif, the author argues it was instead a spontaneous and unavoidable movement, guided by forces beyond human control. The book asserts the English Reformation was largely independent of Martin Luther and others, developing its own distinct characteristics that define the Church of England even today. The author emphasizes how the supremacy of the Pope and loss of English nationality for the clergy were key provocations for change, while the Reformation itself was also a response to the need for constitutional liberty in England. The book explores the deliberate and careful process by which the English Church transitioned away from Papal authority, maintaining that the resulting doctrinal changes were not the work of any one individual but rather the product of collective wisdom and a need to adapt to changing political and religious realities.
