This book by the author of the esteemed "Compendium of Ancient Geography" discerns the historical and physical character of the ancient world, from its first human inhabitants to the birth of the first great civilizations. The author lived and worked during the reign of Louis XV of France as a scholar of the "Acadà mie Royale des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres", focusing on the study of the classics. The author examines early man's migratory routes and examines the often contradictory classical interpretations of the world's geography. The author presents a corrective, evolving picture of the ancient world's geography, one which would be later borne out by explorers over a century after the book's original publication. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
