The author begins by showing the diverse and ever-changing nature of the canon in the early centuries of the church and how it was used to make critical theological decisions by excluding specific books from the collection. The author then examines the way the New Testament canon was adopted as the orthodox canon, and contrasts and compares this to the canon of the Old Testament. This book traces the history of the Christian canon over the course of 15 centuries of church history, from the first-century church through the Middle Ages and the Reformation to the present day, and will appeal to scholars interested in the textual history of the Bible.
