Vitry's diverse contributions placed him at the forefront of France's cultural and political landscape, where he served under several French kings and befriended renowned figures like Petrarch and Guillaume de Machaut. The author explores Vitry's literary prowess, particularly his groundbreaking translation and moralization of Ovid's Metamorphoses, which sought to reconcile classical literature with Christian values.
