This book provides an in-depth look into the administrative proceedings of the Municipal Council and the Municipal Bureau of Paris during the French Revolution. Published in four volumes and covering the period from October 1790 to June 1791, it offers primary source material on the transformation of Paris after the storming of the Bastille and the formation of a popular assembly in July 1789. With a focus on the erosion of royal authority in Paris, the author traces the complex political negotiations between central authorities and local actors, offering valuable insights into the challenges of creating a new governing body in a time of great social change. The book delves into the specific mandates and tensions between the two municipal bodies, as they navigate the complexities of law enforcement, public assistance, taxation, healthcare, education, and religious affairs in the city.
