Its focus is on developing and testing prototype systems for Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) network protocols and conducting OSI-related research. OSINET is part of a broader historical trend to create standard protocols for data communication and networks, including within it the work of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (CCITT). Thematic depth is achieved as the author lays out the foundational work for continued development of the OSI model and its protocols. The insights the book provides on its subject are vital to understanding the ongoing development of methods of data communication across different systems and vendors. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
