Buch Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition. First impression of the true first edition. ***Near fine in dark blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The gilt is still beautifully bright having been protected by the dustwrapper. The boards are clean and unmarked, with just a very small indentation on the spine. No bumps or creases. Top edge of page block stained mauve by the publisher (now faded). No reading lean. Spine tight. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions. No foxing. Pages clean and bright. No creases or tears. Dark-mauve endpapers. ***In a very good illustrated dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of £1.00 net. The white dustwrapper has some marks commensurate with age and handling, but is complete without any loss. There is a small closed tear at the top edge of the back panel, with some associated creasing, and a small stain on the spine (please see scans). ***96 pages including a 32 page Introduction by Naomi Lewis, a section of Notes, and an Index of First Lines. 224mm x 144mm. ***'One day in the autumn of 1845,' wrote Charlotte Brontë, 'I accidentally lighted on a MS. volume of verse in my sister Emily's handwriting --- I looked it over, and something more than surprise seized me --- a deep conviction that these were not common effusions, nor at all like the poetry women generally write. I thought them condensed and terse, vigorous and genuine. To my ear they had also a peculiar music, wild, melancholy, and elevating --- It took hours to reconcile her to the discovery I had made, and days to persuade her that such poems merited publication.' (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***A first impression of the true first edition of this collection of Emily Brontë's poetry - chosen and annotated for children. A nice reading copy of this first edition. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
