This substantial technical work provides a comprehensive introduction to the physics, techniques, and technology of remote sensing, including the interaction of electromagnetic waves with matter and remote-sensing methods spanning the electromagnetic spectrum from the ultraviolet through microwave regions. Applications include the study of Earth's surface and oceans, atmospheric sensing, radiative transfer, and planetary science. A particularly noteworthy aspect of the book is its author. Charles Elachi was a professor at Caltech and later served as Director of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory from 2001 to 2016.
