The book attempts to explain and display (over 76 pages + index) the decorative themes that are used in Chinese carpets so that the buyer can distinguish them from those of India, Persia or Turkey. Both wool and silk rugs are discussed. LEARN about the Lotus-flowers design, the Pearl border, chrysanthemums, rosettes and various animals as they appear on carpets of the period. One fascinating idea that I picked up was the `endless luck' pattern (Wan-tzu-pu-tao-fou). Cond: Blue, yellow and purple paper wrapper, while ALL internal illus. is b/w. All corners sli. soft, edges lightly chipped. Bright and tight. CLEAN. No tears, folds, creases nor marks (save prev. owner's name (ffep). One map. Photo examples plus MANY symbols explanation charts (e.g. - State Umbrella, Covered Vase, Musical stone of Jade) Quote (p.37): " .for these dyes were intended for cotton goods mostly and not suited to carpet weaving materials.
