Lavish Charles Blackman tome, with b&w and full-colour plate illustrations throughout; text by Nadine Amadio; Schoolgirls, Alice in Wonderland, Girls and Flowers, Gardens, The Sea, Nudes, Nightmares; cream vinyl boards with gilt titling to front and spine, lime-green endpapers, illustrated d…ustwrapper, in yellow vinyl slipcase; a unique copy with pencil annotations throughout mostly related to issues of provenance, providing particulars of the owners of various pictures, or the galleries or collections where paintings are held - or if unknown then suggesting research options such as 'Lorraine Diggins would remember buyer'; the notes may have been assembled by someone preparing a Blackman exhibition, or perhaps a monograph, but this remains speculative; we've asked around, but have so far failed to discover the culprit - although it appears to be a Blackman insider, as the notes show an unusual level of detail; some are anecdotal in content, for example on a page of thumbnail illustrations relating to sketches for 'Schoolgirls' we encounter comments such as 'I took them to tea', 'came in Bentley', or 'on holiday but still my photos of Manchester children who (were) Miner's daughters'; for 'The Room of Edgar Allan Poe' we read 'CB Genevieve has it in garage' (Genevieve le Couvreure); other names and collections referenced include Kerry Stokes, Rene Rivkin, Michael Hershon, Sue Hewitt, NGV, Rudy Komon, Dr Janet Nield, Ron Walker, '11th Floor Reserve Bank', Dr Toussaint, John Guild, Barry Taffs, Heide, AGWA, 'whereabouts unknown', 'Sold Tom Lowenstein', Frank Thompson; whilst we're aware that portions of the marginalia may have gathered some moss, and that certain of the persons mentioned are no longer with us, this nonetheless remains a more than uncommon Blackman item; Very Good throughout (notations excepted); dustwrapper a little rubbed and creased, o.w.
