Soundly bound and clean in publisher's black cloth lettered in white to spine. Graphic pictorial dust jacket retains the $5.00 issue price to the front flap but is considerably worn at edges. Rubbing and a few short tears to the top edge of the front panel, with a larger number of longer closed tears to edges at rear. Prior owner's extensive old tape mends to the tears, largely placed on the blank verso. A darkly satirical Vietnam-era alphabet, using the familiar children's ABC-book format to catalogue the threats, absurdities and anxieties of contemporary American life. Writer Merrill Pollack and his twin brother Reginald were both WWII combat veterans, lending particular weight to the book's antiwar perspective. Reginald Pollack went on to a substantial career as a painter, printmaker and sculptor, exhibiting widely with work entering numerous major museum collections.
