Dodgson, better known as Lewis Carroll, and a connected history of their composition and development. Editions published since his death in 1898 are listed, together with a selection of works about him and a review of the translations published in his lifetime. The first edition of the Handbook by Williams and Madan was published in 1931, and an extensive revision by Roger Lancelyn Green appeared in 1962, with many illustrative passages from Dodgson's diaries and letters. This later version was reissued in 1970, and has now once more been revised, and extended to take account of work lone in the last eighteen years. In the main section, to 1898, there are over forty entirely new articles - twenty referring to previously unrecorded pieces - and some sixty editions are individually numbered for the first time.
