Cloth. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition. Hardback. Sunned spine to D/J. Local historians wil find here a guide, unrivalled in depth and detail, to the main archival sources available to them in England and Wales. Its coverage extends from the eleventh to the twentieth centuries, right up to the structural reforms of the Conservative government of 1970-74 (instead of stopping at the usual terminal date of around 1914). Particular stress is laid on centrally preserved sources as well as on the value of very recent records for twentieth-century local history, with the description of such material based on examination of unpublished search-room handlists rather than exisiting guides. Throughout, treatment of the archives is related to the history of the central and local government institutions which created them - indeed, the book may equally be read as an outline history of government in England and Wales from the middle ages to the present day, and especially of parliamentary legislation on local administration and allied matters. 253 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.).…
