Also included are appendices, copious notes and his essay "Seraphim's Theatre". Antonin Artaud was born in Marseilles in 1896 and died in Paris in 1948. He was an actor, poet and director. In 1927 he founded the Theatre Alfred Jarry with Roger Vitrac. His influence is widespread in the theatre today, notably in the plays of Adamov, Audiberti, Camus and Genet, and in the productions of Barrault, Vilar and Peter Brook.'
